TRANSMITTER MAKES GOOD

TRACK SPEEL REPRODUCED Two-year-old honours are constantly changing as, fresh horses come on the scene, or as those that have raced earlier in the season reach real racing pitch. Transmitter, a Vaals— Telepathy colt, is one of the latter. Until a few yards off the post it appeared on the second day of the Auckland meeting that he was to repeat his first day success at the Ellerslie meeting. He had overhauled Kronos, but the latter came again to get the verdict, half a head. Miss E. Morrison, owner of the colt, has taken a keen interest in racing for a number of years, but only from the spectacular side. About a year ago she decided that she would like to see her own colours carried, and her choice fell on the Vaals yearling. She gave him to H. (“Paddy”) Eva to train at Avondale, and that mentor was proud of his charge—considered he had something really good. Transmitter quickly showed that he could gallop fast, and not a few jockeys bespoke the riding, having made up their minds that here was a youngster that would win early in the season. It was even thought that the colt might succeed in early classics. Despite good track efforts, however, Transmitter had several starts without running into a place, and there is little doubt that minor setbacks during his training had a lot to do with this.
