Meteorological Office, Wellington, Wednesday, February 5, 4 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone centred over Tasmania covers the Tasman Sea and New Zealand. A tropical cyclone is located north of Noumea. Forecast. —Winds: Gradually turning to south-easterlies almost generally. Force, strong at times in the far north and on the east coast; otherwise moderate to fresh. Seas: Moderate or rather rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Fresh to strong winds from a southerly quarter; sea rather rough and later rising in the far northern portion. Weather: Scattered showers continuing on the Southland coast and in the extreme north. Some isolated showers also east of the main ranges of the North Island. Elsewhere fair to fine; temperatures cool. Time of sunset to-day, 7.38 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 5.33 a.m. Phases of the Moon for February.—First Quarter, February 4; Full Moon. February 12; Last Quarter, February 19; New Moon, February 26.
