NOTABLE PROGRESS

WAR FINANCE SAVINGS CAMPAIGN TOTAL PASSES £BOO,OOO. [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Jan. 13. The latest figures show the steady progress being made with the New Zealand national savings campaign launched in October. In addition to the 50,000-odd national savings accounts opened prior to December 23, a further 10,000 new accounts have now been opened, and the cash returns indicate that the Dominion's war finance continues to receive generous support. A month ago the first half million pounds were announced, and now the figure stands at £801,182. Of this £457,100 has come from the sale of national savings bonds, and £34,082 is invested in national savings accounts. Since the scheme was launched in addition to over 60,000 people having opened national savings accounts a total of 29,281 national savings bonds have been purchased.
