MAUNGANUI ACQUIRED BY GOVERNMENT
USE AS HOSPITAL SHIP IMMEDIATE CONVERSION [ Per Press Association. 1 WELLINGTON, Jan. 11. The Prime Minister announced today that arrangements had been completed by the Government to take over the Maunganui, and for her conversion as a hospital ship. The necessary alterations will be put in hand immediately and the ship will be placed in commission on her new service as early as possible. Mr. Fraser also said that negotiations were at present taking place for the acquisition of a second hospital ship, but details were not yet available.
