RECENT AUCKLAND MATCH
WANGANUI PRAYERS TO FORE
PRESENTATION MADE Four Wanganui cricketers who distinguished themselves in the recent match against the Auckland touring side were presented with inscribed cricket balls on Saturday afternoon in the pavilion on Cook’s Gardens. The balls were the gift of the Wanganui Cricket Association. The cricketers are: H. B. Cave (Wanganui Collegiate School >, S. Nintmo (Wanganui Technical College), A. McPhail, and H. Whiting. The first three excelled in bowling and H. Whiting, in Wanganui's second innings, scored 116 not out. The president of the Wanganui Association, Mr. R. E. Cuthbertson, congratulated the team on its fine p'Ttormance and the players who Had distinguished themselves in the match. He praised the captaincy of Mr. F. W. » Gilligan, headmaster of the Wanganui Collegiate School, and said Wanganui was fortunate in having such an enthusiastic cricketer as Mr. Gilligan. “I am very much impressed the way cricket is being conducted and played here,” said Mr. Gilligan. It was gratifying to the selector and members of the executive to see that good and promising players are coming forward. He praised the efforts of the association in fostering cricket among the schoolboys, and said much good was being accomplished. He acknowledged the work of Mr. W. H. Bickley, in arranging the entertaining of the Auckland team while in Wanganui. Mr. Gilligan said that the vVanganui eleven had shown a fine team spirit and had given him every co-operation in the match against Auckland. It had been a pleasant experience to have been captain of the side. ,
