PRISONERS IN GERMANY

MONTHLY PARCEL SERVICE [ British Official Wireless. ] RUGBY, Jan. 8. As the result of an interesting and successful experimental journey undertaken privately by Mr. Clairdorne Pell, son of the United States Minister to Lisbon, efforts are being made in co-operation with the Portuguese Red Cross to establish a monthly service by which more parcels may be delivered to the British prisoners in Germany. Mr. Pell left Lisbon on December 12 by lorry and arrived after nine days at Geneva, where he posted to British prisoners in Germany many parcels. The Swiss postal authorities guaranteed their delivery within three days, which meant that all would be delivered in time for the New Year and even possibly for Christmas. Mr. Pell arrived back in Lisbon on January 3 after a journey made in the most difficult weather. The next journey will be undertaken by Miss Elizabeth Adams, a young American girl who drove ambulances in France and was awarded the Croix de Guerre. She expects to leave for Geneva in a fortnight, driving a lorry loaded with comforts and nourishing foods.
