A night communique states; "In local operations we captured important heights at the bayonet point, taking about 200 prisoners and also much material, including 20 mortars. The Greeks repulsed a sharp Italian counter-attack south-westward of Moscopoyle. RUGBY, Jan. a. A successful raid was made on military stores and buildings at Elbasan on January 7, but flying conditions were extremely bad and snow, sleet, and rain made the observation of the results difficult. However, high-ex-plosive and incendiary bombs were seen to hit several buildings and a number of fires were started. A Rome communique says the Italian air force bombed Salonica with evident results. There have been activity between patrols and actions of a local character.
CULTURAL TREATY SIGNED GREECE AND BRITAIN Received Jan. 10. 11 p.m. LONDON. Jan. 9. The Greek Prime Minister, General Metaxas, anti the British Minister at Athens, Sir Michael Palairet, have signed the first cultural treaty Britain has concluded in any country’ signifying a desire to continue peace-
time co-operation begun in the war. Greece provides every facility for the British language and way of life and thought to become familiar throughout Greece. Reciprocal facilities are being granted for students.
