WINDSOR PROPAGANDA
r pHE Press and the film are being used as channels through which to pass propaganda to re-establish the Duke and Duchess of Windsor in public esteem. While they are at liberty to use the same methods as are used to “build up” the publicity of a film actress, it may be doubted whether the technique of Hollywood is adequate to the task of placing the Windsors in the place which the Duke voluntarily vacated, and it may be doubted, too, whether such activities help the Governor of the Bahamas and his consort toward the cherished end. Royalty and ouadi-Royalty are not elevated by having themselves placed on the same level as publicity-made personality. The world is not really interested in the Duchess’ toothache or her capacity to teach other women to boil water. Provided the Windsors play the game in the safe little sphere now accorded them they will win public approval far better than by the activities of the personal Press agent.
