Meteorological Ofhce, Wellington, Friday, January 10, 4 p.m. General Situation. —A disturbance extends from North Tasman Sea across the South Island. Anti-cyclones are centred to the northeast of New Zealand and over Tasmania. Forecast. —Winds: Moderate to strong north-westerlies at first from Nelson and Marlborough northwards; moderate to fresh southerlies, thence southward and southerlies becoming general by Sunday. Seas (New Zealand waters): Rather rough or rough in the South Taranaki Bight and about Cook Strait and south of Banks Peninsula; elsewhere slight or moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to fresh northerly winds at first in the northern portion; otherwise moderate or fresh southerlies prevailing; seas moderate. Weather: Intermrttent rain accompanying a southerly change, but otherwise mainly fair to fine, with a few isolated showers only; temperatures rising in the north; moderate in the south.
