ON AWAPUNI TRACKS

CLP KORSES GALLOP. The outstanding items on the programme at Awapuni on Tnuisaay morning were the mile gallops by the three Wellington Cup horses, Ola Bill, Catalogue and The Buzzer, and a good elfort over live by Chary. They took place on the plough, which was ■’fluffy” and there was plenty of dust. The Buzzer, ridden by D. W. Redstone, the stable apprentice, maintained an even pace throughout and he had Last Acre (H. Stewart) as. a companion. The first half took 56 and the last four 54 and they finished strongly. Carrying a good deal of dead weight The Buzzer finished like a really good horse to win the Marton Cup, a fast run race, and if ah goes well in the interim he should give a good account of himself at Trent ham, where he will be ridden by B. H. Morris. Catalogue (B. H. Morris) with Cherry Bay (R. B. Ireland) came home in 42 to complete his mile easily in 1.501. He looks as well as ever he did and it will not be at all surprising if he runs a good race in the Wellington Cup. Old Bill (M. Bowden), looking bright and keen to work, was allowed to bowl along at even time until past the four. Then the pace was increased and he came home smoothly in 39. He is certain to be one of the Wellington Cup favourites. He will be ridden by G. R. Tattersall, who won on him last year. Chary (S. Waddell) sprinted five on his own and, beginning smartly, he came home in 39 to complete in 1.3 3-5, the best of the morning over the distance. Etruscan (J. Williamson) looking none the worse for his Christmas racing, covered the last five of six in 1.6. Xotua (Morris) and Colonel Bogey (W. J. Broughton) were going well together at the end of seven in 1.331; and Rose Acre (J. K. Searle) and Rhodes (Williamson) completed a limilar task in 1.39.
