MISLAID, NOT STOLEN

MISSING CHEQUES AT GISBORNE FOUND IN CAR GISBORNE, Jan. 9. Cheques and orders valued at £591, the property of Mr. T. J. Atchison, a storekeeper of Ngatapa, thought to have been stolen from his car on the afternoon of December 30, have now been recovered by their owner. A parcel containing the cheques and orders was placed in a compartment on the dashboard of Mr. Atchison’s car, which was left standing in Gisborne for some time. When Mr. Atchison returned to the car late in the afternoon he was unable to find the parcel. He reported his loss to the police, who notified all banks of the supposed theft. It now appears that the parcel was mislaid, and was later found in the car.
