SATURDAY’S WORK
Smart trials by Manawatu candidates, including Friesland, Vai Pere, Greenock, and Stencil, were features of the work on the Haw era tracks on Saturday morning, when the plough and the course proper provided excellient going. Mills’ stable, recorded 50sec. in a similar 'effort. The former has improved with I recent racing and it will not be on the score of condition if she fails to show up in the immediate future. Notium (McDonald) led Chief Lord (Ryan) by a couple of lengths throughout seven furlongs, the last six in 1.18. Chief Lord is not a good track worker. She ' continues to impress, being easily the i most forward of the local two-year- ‘ olds. Pink Lass (Cole) and Ngamatu ' (Sexton) required 52 4-ssec. over Tie [same ground. | At the third attempt from a barIrier start Min Vaals (Ryan), Ring [Chief (McDonald) and Ngatere (Cole) 'traversed three furlongs in 42sec., the latter easing off before the completion. 1 Barry Boy (Mills) showed the way to High Tone (Holland) over three [furlongs along the back in 39 2-ssec. i Both horses recently resumed fast work after a let-up. ■ Battledress (Holland? held the [measure of Retort (Ryan) at the | conclusion of a similar distance in 39sec.
