HITLER IN ENGLAND!
NEW BOOKS AT PUBLIC LIBRARY Illustrated by David Low, New Zealand-born cartoonist, "The Flying Visit,” by Peter Fleming, is one of. the latest books received at the Wanganui Public Library, and it will bo welcomed for its theme. There is, when Mr. Fleming comes to think of it, no reason at all why Hitler should not at any moment decide to fly over London, either because he felt that way or for publicity purposes, or both. Very well: Hitler does this. He flies by night and he flies high, and it Is the worst possible luck that his plane is destroyed over the Chilterns by an infernal machine concealed in his thermos flask! All the occupants are killed save one. . . . The Fuhrcr descends on England by parachute. He cannot speak English: he has no money: he is wearing the uniform of a German field-marshal. When throe such genipses as Fleming. Low and
Hitler meet, fireworks are likely to follow. And they do. "Behind the Fleets,” by A. D. Divine, is a first-hand account of Ihe duties and exploits of the convoys, the .Dover Patrol, the minesweepers and other subsidiary fleets. Mr. Divine is the appreciative chronicler of the war services of the Merchant Navy and also of the innumet able services auxiliary to the Royal Navy. The author pays the generous tribute of one who knows the rigours of winter war service at sea can make the retder understand them too. But it is the unconquerable spirit of the British seaman that move him most; and as be says: "There shall be no conquering Britain until that spirit fails."
