C° W STABLE J. FLETCHER PROMOTED
TRANSFER ANNOUNCED
A number of transfers and promotions affecting members o£ the New Zealand Police Force in Wanganui were announced on Saturday by Inspector J. A. Dempsey. Sergeant J. Abel, Taumarunui, has been promoted to the rank of seniorsergeant and transferred to Christchurch. His place at Taumarunui will be taken by Sergeant V. J. Cosgrave, Wanganui. Sergeant W. J. K. Brown, Auckland, succeeds Sergeant Cosgrave at Wanganui.
Constable J. C. Fletcher, Wanganui, has been promoted to the rank of sergeant and transferred to Wellington.
Constable J. J. McCann, Auckland, has been transferred to Gonville, and Constable J. F. R. Fischer, Ashhurst, goes to Castlecliff. Sergeant Cosgrave is well known in Wanganui and Hunterville, where he was formerly a constable. He was transferred to Wellington when promoted to the rank of sergeant, and in 1939 came to Wanganui. Sergeant Fletcher is district clerk, Wanganui, and before being appointed to that position was in charge of the arms office. About 10 years ago he served in Wellington as a constable. During his stay in Wanganui Sergeant Fletcher has taken an active interest in rowing, and is secretary of the Wanganui Rowing Association. Constable Fischer replaces Constable W. Trask, who resigned recently to enter business in Woodville on his own account. Constable Trask served at Castlecliff for a number of years. Constable T. M. Condon, of Gonville, has be n n transferred to Picton as police gaoler.
