CHILDREN’S HEALTH CAMP

CHRISTMAS PARTY AND CONCERT

A happy Christmas party held in Wanganui on Saturday was that given at the Children's Health Camp and

which took the form of a concert instead of a garden party as previously arranged. Parents and friends were invited, also the committee of the Board of Trustees, including Mr. Hope Gibbons (chairman), Mr. A. R. Donaldson (secretary) and Mr. A. G. Bignell, and the Women's Auxiliary Committee, Mrs. A. McPhail (chairwoman), Mesdames N. R. Bain, R. G. Taiboys, A. J. Hair, Miss N. Sampson and Miss M. Preston. An apology »vas received from Miss Dean. Also present were Miss Gibbons, Mrs. C. Barton, Mrs. J. Morrison, Miss Hunter (matron of the hospital), Mrs. A. G. Bignell, Mrs. A. R. Donaldson, Mrs. and Miss Endean (Auckland). Miss Curham (matron) received the guests.

Mrs. McPhail welcomed the visitors and explained that a garden party had been arranged, but a concert was held instead so that parents could see the progress made by the children. The concert took place in the mess room, which was decorated with flowers, greenery lanterns and streamers.

The concert was arranged by Miss Peterson and the items given by the children included songs, glees and choruses, solos and duets by the Maoris, also tennis ball drill to music by the children. A play, acted by the children and produced by the teachers, formed the second part of the programme. Tea was served to the incited guests and the children. Mr. Hope Gibbons gave a resume of the work done by the committee for the children. Opportunity was taken to present a mirror to Miss Poad, a member of the staff who is leaving shortly to be married.

A collection was taken up and the money is to be used for sports equipment for the children. Miss Petersen, Miss Curham, Miss Gibbs and general staff were thanked for the excellent results of the camp and were congratulated on the healthy appearance of the children.
