WRAPPING PAPER STILL DEARER

GROCERS’ APPEAL TO PUBLIC. WELLINGTON. Oct. 15. Brown wrapping paper has again advanced in price, it is stated, the latest increase of £ll 17s 6d a ton bringing the merchant’s price to £72 a ton. as against the prewar price of £34 for the same quality paper then used. Grocers are perturbed at this latest increase, and at a meeting of the Wellington and Hutt Valley Grocers’ Association it was decided to make a further appeal to the public to co-operate by taking baskets or bags when shopping. Placards will be issued to all members of the association for placing in windows and inside shops. Though the public will respond to an appeal to save paper, they soon lapse into the old habits. It is stated that should this latest appeal fail to have the desired effect the grocers will have no option but to charge a penny a parcel for wrapping.
