Mr. A. Leunig has been appointed acting-branch manager of the Orient Line in New South Wales, because ol the absence on active service overseas of Brigadier L. J. Morshead.

The death has occurred at Dunedin, of Mr. Leslie Gerald Hill, aged 55, a former secretary to the Whangarei Jockey Club. At the time of his death Mr. Hill was secretary to the Dunedin Jockey Club.

Mr. M. J. Daley, formerly of .he lines service of the Post and Telegraph Department, Wanganui, nabeen accepted foi- service with the Royal New Zealand Navy at Auckland.

Mr. A. Orr, postmaster at Feilding. has received notice of his transfer on promotion to the inspectors' div.s:on at the General Post Office, Wellington Mr. Orr has been stationed at Feilding for the past three years.

Mr. S. Hindmarsh, honorary secretary of the Wanganui branch of the Democratic Labour Party, will represent the branch at the conference ot delegates to be held in Wellington at the Labour week-end.

Mr. Gordon Eliott, Feilding representative on the executive of The Automobile Association (Wanganui), because of ill health, had to resign his position during the past financial year. Mr. W. E. Carthew, Feilding, has been appointed to the vacancy.

M. Levitoff, who was in New Zealand in an administrative capacity with the last Monte Carlo Russian Ballet, is a visitor to Wellington. During recent months M. Levitoff has 'nterested himself in the development of the ballet in Australia, and may bring a small company to New Zealand in the near future.

Mr. J. B. Cotterill, M.P., and Mr. P. C. Smith will represent the Wanganui Swimming Centre at the annual conference of delegates, to be held at Wellington during the Labour Day holiday week-end. Mr. Cotterill is president of the centre and Mr. Smith is vice-president.

The death ocurred at Auckland on Sunday, of Mr. James Henry Mclntosh, who was born in Mechanics' Bay in December, 1853, and spent the whole of his life in Auckland. His parents were among the original settlers who came to Auckland in the Duchess ot Argyle in 1842, and his father became armourer at the Barrack Hill Fort, where Albert Park now is. Mr. Mclntosh entered the employment of the Auckland Gas Company as a young man and continued with the company until his retirement. He is survived by one son and two daughters.

The death has occurred of Mr. F. G. Gannaway, who retired from the position of superintendent of telegraphs m Auckland 20 years ago. Mr. Gannaway, who was born in Southamp-

ton, England, in 1856, arrived in Wei lington with his parents two year, later and joined the Telegrapi

Department there in 1872. in his younger days Mr. Gannaway was an accomplished yachtsman. Mr. Gannaway was for many years a member of the Remuera Bowling Club. He is survived by one son and two daughters.
