The Times correspondent on the French frontier says that Professors Macheboeuf and Chavalier, scientific advisers to the Vichy Ministry of Food, have warned Marshal Petain that unless vitamin A, in the form of codliver or halibut oil, is brought from America before January, the lives of three-quarters of all the children in France will be endangered from malnutrition, or their susceptibility to infectious diseases will be enhanced. They added that the children’s resistance would be lowest next March. FURTHER SUPPORT FOR GENERAL DE GAULLE [ Biitish Official Wireless. ] RUGBY, Oct. 12. General de Gaulle telegraphed tc the Prime Minister. Mr. Churchill, from Duala (French Cameroons). “From French soil over which the enemy has no control I send you and the valiant peoples of the British Empire an expression of complete confidence and faithful friendship from the 14,000,000 Frenchmen or French subjects who are already bound to me for the prosecution of the war by the Side of the Allies till the final victory." Mr. Churchill replied: “I received your telegram with great pleasure, and I send my best wishes to you ana all other Frenchmen who are resolved to fight on with us. We shall stand resolutely together till all obstacles are overcome, and we shall share in the triumph of our cause.” It is reported that meanwhile the French community in South Africa has unanimously decided to support General de Gaulle and that an organisation has been formed to collect funds and send men to join the Free French forces.
