FIGHTER PLANE APPEAL CHEQUE SENT TO MINISTER [ Per Press Association. ] WHANGAREI, Oct. 14. The Northern Advocate to-day forwarded to the Finance Minister a cheque for £5OlO 10s 8d which had been subscribed by the people of seven northern counties in response to the tighter plane fund appeal opened by that paper. With the exception of several ; amounts of £5O, the subscriptions were almost entirely small amounts, the ; contributors ranging from old age . pensioners to young children who gave voluntarily within a month. The Minister has been asked to communicate to Lord Beaverbrook the desire of the contributors that the fighter plane when completed bear the name Northland.
