200 MINERS IDLE

NO WORK FOR SEVERAL DAYS WET-TIME PAYMENT SOUGHT (Per Prefl« Association I AUCKLAND, Sept. 5. A strong recommendation that the men of the MacDonald Mine should resume work to-morrow, was passed at a lengthy meeting of the executive of the Northern Miners’ Union, held to-day. No work has been done at the mine for several days, 200 men employed there having been idle as a result of a claim by one man for wettime payment. After the meeting to-day the secretary of the union, Mr. T. Hall, visited Glen Afton, where he interviewed the superintendent of the mine, Mr. P. Hunter. The dispute was fully discussed in the presence of the managers of the Glen Afton and MacDonald Mines. The MacDonald Mine will be visited to-morrow morning by the president of the union, Mr. J. D. Garrick, and Mr. Hall, and the resolution carried by the union executive will be placed before the men.
