NO FOOD CARGOES FOR EUROPE
BRITAIN DETERMINED CLAIMS BY GERMANS ABUNDANT SUPPLIES [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright] Received Aug. 15, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, Aug. 14. Mr. Anthony Eden, in a broadcast to-day, stated that Britain has no intention of letting food supplies get through to Europe. There was nothing in the suggestion that the United States had made a proposal to Great Britain that food should be let through to France, lie said. It was stated by the leaders in Germany that she had an abundant supply of food, and it was held in England that if such was the case, sue would be able to feed the peoples of the countries she had occupied. Mr. W. Leach (Labour) tabled a motion in the House of Commons signed by 130 members of the House from all parties, requesting the Government to resist any proposal to allow food to pass through the blockade to Europe, because Germany was responsible for th’e shortage, and ner leaders already asserted that they had abundant supplies at their disposal. A Berlin message says that officials attacked Britain for refusing to allow food to reach Europe, and said that Britain’s attempt to foist on Germany the responsibility for feeding Europe was a naive action.
