The football resulted in a draw—--3 points all. The game was very evenly contested, neitner side being able to score a try, all the points coming from penalty goals. The visiting forwards were superior in the loose and lineouts, while the Jlarton boys received more than their share of the ball from the scrums. The local backs were superior in combined play but the failure of the insids backs to make the most of their opportunities did not give the three-quarters many scoring chances. J. Fisher kicked a penalty goal for Marton, while McGiness kicked a goal for Taihape. Mr. F, Parkinson was the referee.

In the basketball, Taihape won the A game by 20 goals to 15, and was also successful in tne B game by 19 goals to 6. The first game wis very matched, tiie combination of the visitors being just too good for the Marton team. In the second game the visitors outplayeu the home team. Miss V. Wilkinson refereed both games. After the game the players were entertained to afternoon tea at the school, and later left by the express. The Taihape team were accompanied by Miss Cooper and Mr. D. RUGBY FOOTBALL TWO INTERESTING MATCHES FOR SATURDAY The Rugby football season officially closes in Marton to-morrow, when two very interesting games are scheduled to be playen on Marton Park.

The big match of the day is the return representative fixture between Rangitikei and Wanganui B. In the match recently played at Wanganui the home side won narrowly, but Rangitikei supporters are fairly confident that the local side on Saturday will be able to turn the tables, especially as the Rangitikei side had a “run” last week, even though conditions were wretched.

Rangitikei had a good side and the visiting combination is reported to be strong, so spectators should witness a game full of incident from first to last whistle. The game commences at 3

p.m. and the referee is Mr. N. Cairncross. The curtain-raiser will be supplied by the Hunterville-Old Boys junior encounter. This will really be a competition final, a win for Old Boys giving them the championship, but a win for the visitors will leave Ohingaiti and Old Boys on equal terms, and a play-off will probably be necessary. Mr. F. Parkinson has been appointed the referee. Such a feast of football has not been supplied in Marton this season. LADIES’ HOCKEY RANGITIKEI TEAM FOR N.Z.
