POINT-TO-POINT
Rangitikei Hunt Club Meeting
ANNUAL FIXTURE HELD INTERESTING JUMPING Weather conditions yesterday for the Rangitikei Hunt Club s annual point-to-point steeplechase meeting were in striking contract to those experienced last year, the day being mild, with bright sunshine, whereas last year the fixture was held in a snowstorm. The attendance was large, and the grounds on Mr. L. H. S. Marshall’s property, “Makoiti,” near Marton, presented an animated scene, spectators being treated to some interesting jumping. Petrol restrictions prevented as many supporters from distant parts as usual attending the meeting, but there was a strong representation from Waver ley, and tnese had the satisfaction of seeing Waverley horses carry off the majority of the prizes. There were several spectacular spills in the point-to-point steeplechases, but these were not accompanied by any serious injuries. In the ladies’ hunter, events, however, the popular Waverley rider, Miss A. Graham, fractured a collarbone wnen Steel Spring fell at the first obstacle. Miss Graham was attended by Dr. W. S. R. Dick and Sister Watkins, of Hunterville, and was removed by the St. John Ambulance for treatment. When Slinter baulked at the first obstacle in the Handy Hunters’ Trial, Mrs. Alexander was tnfown heavily and fractured an ankle. Returning thanks at the conclusion of the day’s activities, the master, Mr. J. Brice, thanked the farmers of tne district for their courtesy to the club throughout the season. The trophies were presented to the winners by Mrs. Brice.
Afternoon tea was dispensed in buffet style by a committee of ladies. The secretarial side of the day’s arrangements were capably carried out by Miss F. L. Way. The hon. starter was Mr. A. T. Gatrell. Messrs.
