‘MAJESTIC THEATRE

"DISPUTED PASSAGE” “Disputed Passage,” screening today at the Majestic Theatre, is a brilliant screen adaptation o£ Lloyd C. Douglas’ famous novel. It is the tradition of a succession of most impressive screen dramas, which include “Magnificent Obsession,” “Green Light,” and “White Banners,” and is well worthy of them. Akim Tamlroff is adpiirably cast as the embittered scientist Dr. Forster, and he gives a performance equal to his best. The part of the young doctor is well taken ■ by John Howard, who infuses into it a sincerity well in keeping with the role. As the Chinese-American girl Lan-Ying, Dorothy Lamour is both; surprising and impressive as a dra-' matic actress of considerable intensity. The entire film is admirably balanced,: and every scene is most convincing, ft 1 carries a very real message, which is ' well brought out in a most unusual ending. Excellent supports include' the latest newsreels, an orchestral; item by Frankie Masters, a splendid sports feature entitled “Bali Fossers,” and a Betty Boop cartoon. “Judge Hardy and Son.” The screen’s most famous family return in their best film to date, ’ “Judge Hardy and Son,” which will be Friday’s attraction at the Majestic; Theatre. Mickey Rooney is, of course, Andy Hardy again. Lewis Stone plays the role of Judge Hardy, Fay Holden' Mrs. Hardy, and Cecilia Parker the daughter of the family.
