WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington. Tuesday, July 30, 3 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cyclone still covers most of the Dominion, but pressure is falling in the far south with the advance of an extensive depression across the South Tasman Sea. Forecast.—Winds: Northerlies gradually becoming general and freshening about and south of Cook Strait with gales likely later in some exposed positions. Seas (New- Zealand waters): Becoming rough on the west coast of the South Island and about Cook and Eoveaux Straits, elsewhere slight or moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong northerly to westerly winds to gales and rough seas in the southern portion, light northerlies and slight to moderate seas in the central and northern portions but wind and sea increasing gradually from the south. Weather: Mainly fair and milder. Unsettled, however, m western and far southern districts of the South Island, with rain developing and scattered falls later extending to Otago and the western portions of the Nelson and Wellington provinces. The New Zealand Friends’ School, St. John’s Hill, reports as follows for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday:—Hours of sunshine, 5 hours 20 minutes. Rainfall, trace. Maximum temperature, 56deg. Fahr.; minimum temperature, 33deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 4.55 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 7.10 a.m. Phases of the Moon for July.—New Moon, July 5; First Quarter, July 12; Full Moon, July 19; Last Quarter, July 27.
