After winning a couple of races and being placed several times, Pantheon was imported to Australia as a three-year-old and beat, at weight-for-age. some of the best horses of his day. He was accounted unfortunate to be beaten into second place in the Melbourne Cup. As a sire Pantheon left his mark on the Australian turf. Perhaps his best son was Peter Pan, who twice won the Melbourne Cup, in addition to scoring in the A.J.C. Derby and St. Leger. Avenger was another to win the A.J.C. Derby, beating Ajax, who turned the tables on him in the Caulfield Guineas. Other winners by Pantheon included Olympian, Panto, Hyperion and Oeeanus, all four winners of the W.A.T.C. Derby at Perth. Maikai (Perth Cup). Pandion (Queensland Guineas and St. Leger), and Milantheon (Newcastle Cup and Sydney Handicap), as well as many otrfers.
