MAJESTIC THEATRE
“DESTRY RIDES AGAIN” For exhilarating thrill there is no kind of picture that excels a “Western” if it is a good “Western”; and that quality can truthfully be claimed for “Destry Rides Again," the Marlene Dietrich-James Stewart picture which concludes to-night at the Majestic Theatre. Importance attaches to the producer as well as to the stars, for it can be relied on that a producer like Joe Pasternak will certainly show originality when he turns his hand from the placid scenes of Durbin comedies to the wild and colourful events of the hard-riding West. Marlene Ditrich and James Stewart contribute to the picture the best that is in them, and so do the supporting cast. “Daughters Courageous” This year’s successor to last year’s memorable “Four Daughters" is another Warner Bros’ picture of the joys and sorrows of an amusing and lovable family, entitled “Daughters Courageous,” and this excellent picture is to open at the Majestic Theatre on Friday. While it is in no sense a sequel to “Four Daughters,” since it concerns another family, the new picture has many facets of resemblance. The most striking is the fact that every member of the cast of “Four Daughters” has a part of equal importance and of a similar significance in the new production. Priscilla, Rosemary and Lola Lane and Gale Page are again a quartette of lively and affectionate sisters in the new film, and they again have Claude Rains as their father. They also have the same suitors, John Garfield and Jeffrey Lynn vying for the hand of Priscilla, Frank McHugh courting Lola, and Dick Foran trying to divide his affections between Rosemary and Gale. Even lovable May Robson is again in the cast, though she is not a member of the family this time, being an old servant And then there are two newcomers to the cast, for this time the girls have mother, who is Fay Bainter. The other newcomer is Donald Crisp. The newsreel which takes up part of the first half of the programme deals with several outstanding recent events of the war. There is also a picture that will appeal to dog lovers and an animated cartoon.
