IMPORTING AND ALLIED INTERESTS DEPUTATION TO MINISTER L Per Pre«B Aneoc'.ation J WELLINGTON, April 23. A Conference of importing and Allied interests was held in Wellington to-day to discuss and formulate questions affecting the import control regulations. It was decided to make representations to the Minister of Customs, Hon. W. Nash. A deputation consisting of delegates from the various importing associations and trade federations represented at the conference will wait on the Minister to-mor-row. Mr. Gaynor Jackson (Auckland), president of the Bureau of Importers, presided at the conference and with Mr. G. W. Guthrie, president of the New Zealand Importers’ Federation and Mr. E. A. Christie, president of the United Kingdom Manufacturers and New Zealand Representatives’ Association, will act as spokesmen at the meeting with the Minister. The conference discussed al length various aspects of the import control regulations, particularly the new situation created since the outbreak of war. The effect of lhe Minister's decision in connection with the riscontinuance of no-remittance-of-funds licences and the effect on trade and employment, customs and "ales tax revenue was considered, as well as the Finance Emergency Regulations 1940, and the embargo on dealings in tne outride exchange market.
