Re*. Father C. J. Outtrim, Wanganui, is visiting Wellington.

Mr. H. E. Frederick, has been reelecter chairman of the Waimarino branch of the New Zealand Farmers' Union.

Mr. J. F. Johnston, ot Bunnythorpe Road, Ashhurst, who has been on the staff of the Training College, Wellington, for the past five years, has been appointed by the Director of Education to the position of inspector of schools.

At the installation of officers for the Wanganui Loyal Orange Institution of New Zealand last Saturday evening in the Druids' Hall, Chaplain Fraser was also installed as chaplain to the lodge.

Mr. T. Currie, Wanganui provincial president of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, has been attending annual branch meetings of late. He was present at the Waimarino meeting last Saturday and at Fordeil on Monday night.

Dr. W. Bremner Highet, a graduate of Otago University, has been awarded the Lord Nuffield Scholarship in orthopaedic surgery at the Wingfield Morris Orthopaedic Hospital, Oxford. He accompanied the Byrd Antarctic expedition of 1934 as medical officer and, after returning with the expedition to America, he studied under leading orthopaedic authorities In the Uniteci States. For the past five years he has done post-graduate medical and surgical work in England. His parents reside in Wellington.

Mr. F. C. Jannings, who has been connected with the Wanganui Primary Schools’ Rugby Union for 34' years, has retired from the position of president, an office he has occupied for most of the time he has been on the union. He Was one of the founders of the annual quadrangular primary school tournaments which are now such a feature of the boys’ football year in Wanganui and which have spread to other centres. At a meeting of the Management Committee pf the Wanganui Rugby Union last night, the Junior Management Board notified with regret that Mr Jannings had decided to retire. It was felt that his services should be recognised. The committee carried a motion expressing appreciation of long and valued services rendered to the game and Mr. Jannings’ name was added to the union’s list of privileged members.
