WANGANUI UNION

MANAGEMEN I COMrfii 1I El MEETING BUSINESS DEAL! WITH LAST NIGHT

The Management Committee of the Wanganui Rugby Union met last night. There were present Dr. G. J. Adams (in the chair), Messrs. J. Moye, C. Stewart, E. C. Dallison, A. Larsen, W. Thompson (honorary treasurer), H. Whiting, J. Richardson (referees), A. Takarangi, and H. Cuming. The Pirates Club wrote complaining that potholes in the training area were seriously handicapping training. Mr. Stewart said the matter should be speeded up. "Players are made in the training area, not here on Spriggens Park playing field,” he said. On the motion of Mr. Cuming, the committee decided to refer the matter to the Grounds Committee with instructions to have the necessary work done immediately. After discussion the committee decided that the application of the new Aotea Club for affiliation be accepted fcr a junior team only, subject to the club being proposed by twey other permanent clubs, in accord with the rules end subject also to the players all being natives and being passed by the classification committee fit for the junior grade. It was pointed out that the club should be advised that all senior players will have to apply for reclassification before they can take part as juniors. It was stated by Mr. Takarangi during discussion that the aim of the new Aotea Club is to absorb players from up-river and those not required by the Kauangaroa Club, so as not to allow them to remain idle. The club desired to enter both a senior and a junior team, but the committee considered that there was really too many senior teams already. Had the union not been facing difficulties arising from the war, it was thought that the club’s application for entry to the senior grade could have been viewed differently. All

senior teams now in existence are likely to be looking for players before the season is over, it was said. Reporting on behalf of the fixtures committee, Mr. Whiting said that because of acceptance of Kauangaroa and Aotea junior teams into the com - petition, a complete re-draw of that grade would have to be made. That will, be done to-day. The Marist Club advised that its third-grade team would not be playing this season. The matter was referred to the fixtures committee for action.

It was decided that the McKee Cup, at present held by Marton Old Boys, be continued as a challenge trophy to be held by the champion junior team of the union.
