A HAPPY POSITION

WANGANUI TROTTING CLUB BENEFITS LIABILITY WIPED OUT RESULT OF MEETING HELD AT HAMILTON “The meeting was a phenomenal success,’’ said Dr. G. J. Adams, president of the Wanganui Trotting Club, when referring yesterday to the fixture held at Claudelands, on Saturday, under the control of the Waikato Trotting Club. As a result of the meeting, the net profits of which were generously handed over to the Wanganui Trotting Club, the latter body will be able to wipe oft the deficit which has held it back for several years, and will be able to look forward to the new season without having to worry liabilities.

Gratitude for the Waikato Trotting Club’s action was expressed by Dr. Adams, especially as that club had undertaken the task of running the meeting, from the taking of nominations to the control of the fixture for the Wanganui Trotting Club. A party of officials went up tb Hamilton from Wanganui, but their duties were very light indeed. On Saturday night the visitors were entertained at dinner and a social function by the Waikato officials, when a lengthy toast list was honoured, and compliments were exchanged by the officials of the respective clubs. “The totalisator turnover at the meeting was £21,152, but this would have been well over £23,000 but for the necessity of closing the machine for one race when there was less than £lOOO invested,” said the secretary, Mr. C. S. Swan. “This was unfortunate, but there was an increase over last year’s meeting, held at Wanganui, of more than £13,000.” Mr. Swan concluded by saying that the Waikato officials were lavish in their hospitality, and during their week-end they conducted the visitors on a motor tour of Hamilton and environs, a visit being paid to the stud farm run by Mr. R. T. Reid, president of the Waikato Trotting Club.
