MISSIONARY MEETING

The April meeting of the M.W.M.U. was held in Trinity Parlour on Thursday last, Mrs. P. S. Whitlock presiding over a fair attendance. After the opening hymn Mrs. Goodey led in prayer. As “Hymns” was to be the special study for the afternoon, Mrs. Whitlock took the reading from passages in Psalms, following on with a talk on the various songs of the Bible, anct exhorting her hearers to a more thoughtful use of hymns, thereby making them a more definite part oi worship. As a mark of sympathy and respect to several members who have recently suffered bereavement, the meeting stood in silenc, and the president led in a short prayer. Several apologies were received, and the minutes of the previous meeting read by the secretary, Mrs. Howells. Reference was made to the missionery conference to be held in Nelson, commencing on October 15. Mrs. Hardy sang a favourite hymn, “Awake, Awake, to Love and Work,” after which Mrs. Chittick and Mrs. Howells read letters from missionary sisters. Miss N. Robertson sang another hymn, and several members read their favourite hymns, and also gave theirreasons for their choice. Mrs. Whitlock referred to the youth campaign at present being conducted, asking for the prayerful interest of all on behalf of the young folk, who are living in this difficult age. The box afternoon for the Solomon Islands, also a jumble sale, are to be held shortly. During the closing prayer, Mrs. Sedon and Mrs. Hawkins read their favourite hymns The Benediction, followed by afternoon tea. brought a very enjoyable afternoon to a close.
