UNLAWFUL CONVERSION OF MOTOR-CARS

YOUTH REMANDED FOR SENTENCE DISCIPLINE REQUESTED, SAYS COURT Pleading guilty to converting three motor-cars to his own use, theft of keys, and theft of a bicycle valued at £l9 12s 6d, the property of Chainey Bros., Edgar James Hylton, aged 17, was remanded for sentence until today in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Mr. J. H. Salmon, S.M., presided. Sergeant V. J. Cosgrave appeared for the police. ' Sergeant Cosgrave said Hylton, who had been employed in Brunswick Road, left his employment without giving notice and came to Wanganui. He had a bicycle on hire-purchase from Chainey Bros., and this he sold for £5, to a cycle dealer. He removed keys from a car in Ingestre Street and then took a car owned by Mr. A. R. Donaldson and drove toward Wellington. This car was abandoned in Johnsonville. Hylton joined up with a youth in Wellington and in the night of April 10 converted another car. After being driven round Wellington this car was abandoned. The following day he took another car and drove to Tawa Flat, when he abandoned it. He removed some keys

from a lorry and then got a ride to Marangai. Mr. Salmon said that the probation officer’s report stated that Hylton required some disciplinary training. He was reckless, without understanding the difference between right fnd wrong.
