EXPORT BEEF

CHILLER QUALITY MAINTAINED. LOOKING TO THE FUTURE. •Since the commencement of the war no chilled beef has been imported into the United Kingdom, but as New Zealand's chilled beef production had grown rapidly prior to the war, and the overseas market showed great potentialities, the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board considers it most essential to maintain and even improve present-day quality of chiller beef production. With this object in view, the board is continuing to offer substantial prizes in the various districts for cattle suitable for chilled beef. It is hoped, where possible, that A. and P. Societies will arrange a field day when the cattle are judged in order to demonstrate to farmers the type of animal required. To meet the requirements of the British Government, all our chiller quality cattle are now being shipped as frozen beef. It may be mentioned, however, that in the discussions betwecn the New Zealand Government . ;i . the British authorities, the Nev/ Zealand Meat Producers’ Board specially arranged through the New Zealand Government, that the special quality of our chiller beef should be recognised in the price offered, even though the beef was frozen instead of being shipped as chilled.
