MARCHING TEAMS
CONSOLIDATION DECIDED PATRIOTIC APPEAL TO BE HELPED. At a meeting of representatives of women's marching teams in Wanganui last night it was decided to form a Wanganui Marching Association, the purpose being to protect the interest : of teams which affiliate. One of the < first duties to be undertaken by the new body will be to stag'* a marching display for the Sick and Wounded Soldiers’ Fund, which is to be raised ; in the near future by the St. John Ambulance and Red Cross Society. The new organisation has been brought about as the result of activity ; sponsored by the Wanganui Amateur ; Athletic and Cycling Club during Centennial Week. Providing a grand finale, for that week, the teams produced a spectacle which it is hoped will be repeated at well-spaced intervals. It is the intention of the as- < sociation to prevent marching displays , being unduly exploited. Major C. L. Lovegrove has been ap- j pointed secretary pro tern, and a ; further meeting is to be held at which j a president, officers and committee j will be elected.
