LIGHTERAGE CHARGES

COMPANY WOULD WELCOME AUDIT OF ACCOUNTS IN ACCORD WITH POSITION NOW EXISTING In a further letter to the “Chronicle” with reference to lighterage charges at Wanganui, the New Zealand Refrigerating Company states that it would welcome an audit of these accounts and that the charges are in accord with the position as it exists to-day. The letter is as follows: - With reference to our letter of April 10, the text of which was published in your issue of Thurday, and to Mr. Macnab's comment on that letter.--The position now appears to revive itself into whether or not thp company lighterage charges are reasonable. Mr. Macnab states: “I did say. and the Farmers’ Committee agreed with me, that reasonable lighterage charges should be made, but the point. I make is that the lighterage charges are not reasonable.” We would welcome an audit of these accounts and have written to the Controller of Primary Industries today requesting him to arrange for them to be audited at. the earliest possible date. It will be found that the charges correctly reflect the position as it exists to-day, and that our rates for handling dairy produce and wool are in conformity with the realities of the position. We have to thank you for the publicity given to our letter of April 10. and trust you will be good enough Io give the same publicity to this letter.
