NEW GERMAN MOVES MUST BE EXPECTED
DIRE ECONOMIC POSITION DRIVE WESTWARD THOUGHT LIKELY
(By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) I Received April 11. 9.10 p.m. AMSTERDAM, April 11. The Telepraph’s Berlin correspondent, claiming to reflect German diplomatic views, expresses the opinion that the Germans are likely to make further drives in other directions, probably westward. They cannot afford to sit still because the front 1 now extending over 600 miles can be easily attacked. The efficacy of the Allied b’oekaae was the real reason for Germany's invasion of Scandinavia. The Polis a campaign had used up vast quantities' of material, there was a hara winter, a transport crisis hampered economic activity, and tne commercial treaty between Russia and Germany had not yielded expected benedts, tne Allied policy in the Balkans preventing Germany from obtaining sufficie?it supplies there. Moreover an exceptionally poor harvest is expected in Germany, and the whole of Southeastern Europe. In short, Germany's economic position is parlous. The general feeling in Holland is that events have increased direct danger to Holland, but the Dutch are confident they are well prepared. German soldiers have begun to close the few frontier barricades left open and have erected tank barricades.
