Mr. H. G. Whitehead, Wellington, is visiting Wanganui. Mr. W. L. Young was re-elected patron of the Wanganui Harrier Club at last night’s meeting. Mr. F. B. Clark was re-elected president of the Wanganui Harrier Club at the annual meeting last night. Mr. C. G. Russell has been elected patron of the Wanganui National Dancing Society and Mr. H. E. Hawke president. Mr. A. Douglass was re-elected patron of the Wanganui Basketball Association at the annual meeting this week. Mrs. Patrick Campbell, British actress, aged 54, has died, states a London cable. Married twice, Mrs. Campbell started her stage career in 1886 and subsequently toured with several dramatic companies. Her last stage appearance was in 1929, but she later made a lecture tour of America. She published her biography in 1922. Cardinal Jean Verdier, Archbishop of Paris, is dead, says a London cable. He recently underwent an operation. Cardinal Verdier was born in 1864 ano bish of Paris. In December, 1929, he was appointed Vicar-General of Paris, and since then has been GeneralSupervisor of St. Sulpice Congregation, Apolostic Protonotary, and Archbishop of Paris. In December, -929, he became Cardinal Priest and a member of Sacred College. He was Chancellor of the Institute Catholique o£ Paris.
