WANGANUI GYMKANA
TREAT FOR WANGANUI “I am pleased to see that the Wanganui A. and P. Association is going to hoid a gymkana at Wanganui next •Saturday,” remarked a man who has been prominent in hunting since the early days. “There are too few of i these sports meetings brought to the cities in this country.” He added that the “rodeos” and exciting horse events which are staged in the United States could be repeated in New Zealand quite easily. “The people of the Dominion need not stir far to see the buck jumping excitement which they respond to in films in this country. Good luck to the promoters of the Wanganui gymkana.” Asked whether it would be hard to get horses capable of throwing all riders, he said it would not be difficult at all. “I know of one horse, a bay gelding, which a good many chaps have been trying to catch in the wilds in from Ohakune,” he said. “If the team on the search can find that animal, Wanganui people are in for a thrill. If he is captured I wouldn’t mind paying a few ‘bob’ for him. “There is all the romance of a Zane Grey novel in that back country,” he added, “and if some of it can be brought to your city it will be well worth the trouble.
