SHIP’S FIREMAN SENT TO GAOL

[Per Free. Association ] WELLINGTON, March 23. Six months’ gaol was imposed by the magistrate, Mr. Luxford, on Joseph McCarthy, 47, ship's fireman, found by night without lawful excuse in possession of housebreaking implements. He convicted and discharged him on a charge of theft of f2 from the ship’s till. It was stated that accused was arrested for drunkenness and detonators were found on him.
