OBITUARY
MR. ALBERT COX .The death occurred yesterday morning, after a very short illness, of Mr. Albert Cox, aged 52, a former Buller Rugby representative, who had for the last 26 years been a resident of Wanganui, having been employed by Messrs. Senior and Bennett. Born at Westport, Mr. Cox spent the early years of his life on the West Coast, and besides playing representative Rugby he was a member of the Buller representative hockey team on many occasions. Since coming to Wanganui he had taken an active part in Druidism, being a member of the Bishop Lodge, in which he had attained the office of past district president. He was also a member of the Wanganui Indoor Bowls Association, and was on the United Friendly Societies’ Council. He was one of the most active members in the organising of the annual picnic for children, and also took a keen interest in promoting the butchers’ annual picnic. Mr. Cox married in Wanganui and leaves a widow and two sons, Messrs. Ray Cox (Wanganui), and Allan Cox (Petone). MR. A. S. HOLSTON. A well-known member of the Public Service. Mr. A. S. Houston, secretary to the Department of Agriculture, died at Wellington on Tuesday morning. He was appointed to this position a little more than a year ago, when he succeeded the late Mf. W. C. Robinson, and had had 37 years’ departmental service. Mr. Houston was born in 1879 al Lie Bay of Islands, and was a son of the late Mr. R. M. Houston, M.P. for North Auckland. He was originally attached to the Government Life Insurance Department, and during the last war was lent to the Defence Department. Mr. Houston is survived by his wife, but no family.
