THE WANGANUI SALE SHARI’ RISE ON LAST WEEK Freeman R. Jackson and Co. report another yarding of over 8000 sheep was offered to an excellent attendance of buyers at yesterday’s Wanganui stock sale. Last week it was exceptionally wet and yesterday a pleasant summer day and the contrast in the weather may have had some effect on realisations. Yesterday’s sale, although not a free one, was certainly well above last week. All classes of ewes were keenly competed for as against only a few of the top lines of last week. Lambs were better by 2s to 2s 6d a head: passings were very few and very little remained unsold at the close of the day. All fats, both beef, mutton and pork, as well as vealers, were firm at I late rates, but all store pigs were decidedly easier. Distributing Co., Ltd., report a yarding of 1500 sheep at the sale on Tuesday to an excellent attendance ol buyers. Prices were firm on recent sales and we report a total clearance as follows: —5-year ewes, 18s 3d to 18s 7d; medium sorts, 14s to 15s 6d; medium 2-tooth ewes, 265; small tailend, 18s; 2-tooth weaners, 17s 9d; fat ewes, 17s 6d; shorn b.f. lambs, 13s 6d to 15s Id; w.f. w. lambs, 13s 6d; medium do., 10s 2d; tail-end lots, 5s 9d; 1-shear S.D. rams. £3 3s; best I weaner pigs, 14s 6d to 16s 6d; medium do.. 9s to Ils 6d. We report one o£ the most successiul fairs field for many years, with practically a total clearance, | realisations showing an improvement 'on recent lairs. ’ Approximately 12,000 2-tooth ewes l were offered in this section, the quality being outstanding. A great deal I oi interest was taken in this sale, and I bidding, from the outset, was Keen, i and we report a total clearance at (prices highly satisfactory to vendors. Some outstanding pens of 2-tooths included in the offering soid up to £2 3s, the majority of lines selling in the vicinity of 30s to 355. with the lighter grad* ewes from 265. Some excellent annual draft ewes were offered in the main section, the 1 best o£ the 4-year-olds selling under i steady competition at prices ranging 'from 24s to 27s 6d. Tne best grade 5-year-old ewes were also in demand, and realisations were well up to late rates. The quality in the 6-year-010 ewes section was mixed, and here competition was not so keen. However, vendors were prepared to meet the 1 market, and practically the whole oi | the offering in this section changed ; hands, with the exception of a tew I pens of indifferent quality which were I neglected at auction.
