PIPERS ENTERTAINED

HONORARY MEMBER AS HOSTESS ARAMOHO PARK RECITAL Members of the Wanganui Highland Pipe Band were entertained at supper on Thursday night by Mrs. Margaret Hazelwood, of Glasgow Street, who is an honorary life member of the band and one of its keenest supporters. The band paraded at the Aramoho Park earlier in the evening and played several of the contest items, together with a selection of national airs. A modified version of the band's drum-major display met with the unqualified approval of an audience estimated at nearly 1000. The recital concluded about 9 p.m., after which the band adjourned to Mrs. Hazelwood’s residence to partake of her hospitality. A feature of the recital which also found favour with the gathering of residents and motor-campers was the fact that no collection was taken up, one listener remarking that, as many would have been prepared to contribute, the omission was as surprising as it was welcome. The band will play selections at the Turakina Caledonian Society's annual gathering at Turakina this afternoon, and will also appear at a concert at Turakina to-night. An all-day practice will be held to-morrow, in final preparation for the national championship contest, which will take place at Wellington next Friday and Saturday.
