GOODWILL VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND

AUSTRALIAN MINISTERS \ t SYDNEY, Jan. 18. t The Sydney Morning Herald's Mel- j bourne correspondent says that the f assistant Minister of Commerce. , Senator P. A. M. Mcßride, will fly to \ New Zealand with the Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones. Mr. Me- , Bride will represent the Australian Government, at the Centennial celebrations. He will have no defined I mission from the Commonwealth I Government, but will discuss defence and commercial problems. The New Zealand Government invited the Prime Minister, Mr. R. G. Menzies, and suggested two tentative dates for his visit, but he was unable to accept because of pressure of business. The Daily Telegraph's Melbourne ( correspondent says that Mr. Menzies ( may fly to New Zealand this year on a short goodwill visit. He is anxious that relations between New Zealand and Australia should be fostered. It has been suggested that there is a mistaken belief in New Zealand that there is certain aloofness about Australia’s attitude toward that country. The Commonwealth will try to remove this feeling wherever it exists. On the highest authority it is learned that Mr. Menzies is contemplating J a visit to New Zealand. It is not yet decided whether he will go by flyingboat.
