“IF YOUR ENEMY HUNGERS. FEED HIM”

BISHOP URGES FOOD FOR GERMANY ARCHBISHOP OK < AXTKRBVRY I-A VOI RS RETALIATION LONDON, Jan. 17. The Bishop of Birmingham, at a convocation in Canterbury, urged a petition to the Government to allow the free importation of foodstuffs to Germany in accordance with the precept "If your enemy hungers feed him." The Archbishop of Canterbury replied: "Germany tried to starve us and we are entitled to reply in the same way.” The Bishop of Birmingham later withdrew his motion, saying that the house was divided on practicalities but not on moral fundamentals. The Food Ministry has added bacon, ham and lard to lhe list of commodities which may not be imported except under licence.
