SEASIDE IMI’ROXEMExXT SOCIETY (Own Correspondent.) PATEA, Jan. 18. A profit of £5B 2s 2d resulted from the recent gala day. It was reported at a meeting of the Patea Seaside Improvement Society on Wednesday that this amount, which included a donation from a local business man, would be used in the formation of a road from the bridge to the beach along the river bank. Tne_ society’s financial position at present showed a cash balance of £95 18s. Accounts owing are £4O, leaving a credit of £55 18s, with an estimated income still to come of £2O. It is estimated expenses for the remainder 61 the year can be put down at £5O, so members can see that they still have to work hard to keep our wonderful seaside up to the present state of efficiency. A donation of £3 3s to the band was passed, and £1 Is to the gatekeeper, Mr. G. Jones. A discussion was held on campers ; making a permanent camp at the beach, and it was decided that they be charged 5s a week up till the end of February, and after that not allowed lo remain. It was decided to hold another , beach carnival on March 2, if the date is suitable, and those present were formed into a committee with power to add. Mr. E. F. Hemingway donated a cup for a race for children who have : learnt to swim in the new baths. The Surf Club were unanimously ■ granted permission to charge adults and cars sixpence on February 4, when the annual surf competitions : are held, the objective being to purchase the newly-formed ladies’ club ; costumes. An offer of a collecting box was gratefully accepted, to be placed in a prominent place on the beach. The Borough Council was thanked : for granting the society’s request -’or lights in the bathing shed and one near the baths. Il was suggested that if picnic parties were to notify the society they would see that all facilities were in order and available. Those present were Mr. 11. J. Peacocke (presiding), Mesdames H.- Peacocke, A. Gillon, Messrs. G. Corbett, L. Smith, L. Grieves, A. Gillon, G. Jones, E. F. Hemingway, Mr. Boagey, F. C. Verney, and the secretary, Mr. H. Boazey.

n. Doagey. FAREWELL A large number of friends of Mr. Bob Evans, Patea, gathered at his residence on Wednesday evening to bid him farewell before leaving on Friday for Trentham Camp. A happytime was spent in community singing, and several men conveyed good wishes lo Mr. Adams from the various sports bodies he has been interested in. LAWN TENNIS The following is the team to play at Opunake on Saturday:—Men; A. H. Richards, S. Cousins, J. Bjrne, E. Cousins. Ladies: Miss E. Whitehead. Miss S. Campbell, Miss E. Cousins, Mrs. A.
