Meteorologic al Office, Wellington, Wednesday, January 17, 3 p.m. General Situation.—An anti-cycione is centied east of the Soutn Inland, while a weak depression has formed lo the north-east of the North Island. Forecast. Wind.-: From an easterly quarter predominating, moderate to fresh over the northern half of the North Island, elsewhere light or moderate. Seas (New Zealand waters); Becoming rough in places on the east coast north of Hawke’s Bay. elsewhere slight or moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Light to moderate and variable winds with south-easterlies or southerlies predominating in th northern port n; seas slight but rising in the north. Weather: Scattered rain over the northern half of the North Island, possibly extending later as far south as Taranaki and southern Hawke’s Bay, otherwise fair to fine. Temperatures warm. Time of sunset to-day, 7.34 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 5.5 a.m. Phases of the Moon for January.- Last Quarter, January 2; New Moon, January 10; First Quarter, January 18; Full Moon, January 25.
