Great Australian Sprinters.

Twelve years ago, J. Carlton, now Father James Carlton, greatest of all Australian amateur sprint runners, was doing great things at St. Joseph’s College. Sydney. He made public records of 10s for the 100 yards and 21 4-5 s for the furlong. They are still the best figures. But recently his 100 yards time was equalled by another St. Joseph’s product, B. Ryan, who also took the 220 yards in 225, and the quarter in 51is. Ryan, who weighs 12st 121 b, is a fine physical specimen and a worthy successor to Carlton.
