OBITUARY
MR. I). H. MADILL The death has occurred in Auckland of Mr. David Henry Madill, aged 72. Born in Ireland, he spent three years of his boyhood in Canada before the family came to New' Zealand 54 years ago, and settled first at Pukekohc and later at Tuakau. After farming at Tuakau for a period, Mr. Madill entered business in Auckland, where he remained for nine years. He then returned to Tuakau and managed the large bone-crushing mill there, of which he was part-proprietor, until about six years ago, when he retired. Mr. Madill's business connections took him regularly through both the North and South Islands. He is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. MR. R. A. MEAD Well-known as a compelitoi and judge at sheep dog trials throughout New Zealand, Mr. R. A. Mead, of Waitetuna, has died at the age of 58. Born in Nelson, he worked as a shepherd on several stations as a young man, and later managed a number of stations, including the well-known Matengareka and Cape Runaway holdings. He is survived by his widow, two sons, and two daughters. MR. A. MASSEY • A pioneer of North Auckland, Mr. Anthony Massey, has died at Papakura at the age of 75. His parents arrived in New Zealand in 1863, taking up land in the Maungaturoto district. Mr. Massey, who was the eldest son lived on the original farm for over 60 years, afterwards leaving his son in occupation and taking up residence in Papakura. He is survived by his wife, three sons and two daughters.
