END-OF-YEAB SOCIAL A social evening, held as a breakup of activities for the year, took place last night in the Red Cross rooms, when there was a good attendance of members. A welcome was extended by the president, Mr. D. T. Allan, who thanked all who had done so much towards the success of the work. He said the branch was only a few months ’old, but it had an excellent number of workers, enthusiastic students, also a wonderful band of tutors, who had thrown themselves into the work. Mr. Allan welcomed the Mayor and introduced him to the gathering. Mr. Rogers spoke of the excellent work performed and the eagerness of the workers, who were doing a great work in the community. He congratulated them on the co-operation which prevailed and concluded by wishing everyone a Merry Christmas and Year. The party had been arranged by the ladies of the various committees—the V.A.D. trainees, social commitlee and V.A. workers. On arrival, the tutors were presented with floral sprays, and bouquets to the ladies who contributed to the programme. The trainees took the occasion to make some recognition of the excellent services rendered by the tutors, who are Misses Hunter, Wilcox Blakewell, Kendall, Gasson, Shaw, Preston. Williams, Tooms, Walpole, Gia-b Brown, Jeffs, Westwood. Mesdames Lattey, Ingram, Sarney, Wilcox, and Drs. G. H. Robertson and C. R. Davies. The tutors were presented with gifts from the decorated ChristI mas tree. I Dr. Davies replied on behalf of the tutors and thanked the trainee, for the gifts. Mr. Allan paid a tribute I to the hon. secretary, Mr. L. Garden, for his work for the society. The tutors and secretary were accorded musical honours. Bouquets were presented to the officials. The programme, arranged by Mrs. W. Ward, included the following i items: Songs, Miss Brailsford and Mr. Sanders; pianoforte solos, Mrs. W. Cook; solo dances, Ngaire Ruscoe and Miss Healey; humorous, Mr. Ross Tullock; recitation, Dawn Ward; banjo solos, Mr. Tollman. Miss Naumann played the accompaniments. The serving of supper concluded an enjoyable evening.
